World Health Organisation Director-General Scrutinises Organisation’s Report into COVID-19 Origins

Writer: Lois

World Health Organisation Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus today dismissed his organisation’s long-awaited investigation report into the origins of COVID-19. The United States has also rejected the document, which disregards the Wuhan laboratory leak theory as extremely unlikely, as a political whitewash.

The WHO Director-General contradicted the report and his past reputation of being too close with China by stating the necessity of further investigation into the Wuhan lab leak theory and implying the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) had withheld critical data from the WHO.

“Although the team has concluded that a laboratory leak is the least likely hypothesis, this requires further investigation,” said Mr Adhanom Ghebreyesus.

“I expect future collaborative studies to include more timely and comprehensive data sharing.”

On Tuesday, the United States and 13 allies, including the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, Japan, and South Korea, issued a statement urging Beijing to provide full access to expert sources.

Officials of both the Trump and Biden administration have criticised the controversial WHO report. Former U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo labelled the document a sham and joint disinformation campaign between the CCP and WHO. Current U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken believes the communist Chinese regime tainted the report.

Conversely, China praised the report while stating the WHO should conduct all future research in other countries it claims are more likely to be the source of the virus. However, a WHO investigator has alleged that Beijing failed to hand over raw data detailing early COVID-19 cases to the WHO mission to Wuhan.
