On July 18, 2020, the CCP state media finally admitted that the Three Gorges Dam spanning the Yangtze River “deformed slightly” due to record flooding.
A Xinhua News Agency report says that structural shifting, seepage into the main outlet walls and deformation had been captured in the monitoring records but within safety limit.
According to Chinese dissident Miles Guo, the Chinese Communist top leader did not care about the problems of the dam, because he had no part in this highly controversial project pushed by Deng Xiaoping, Jiang Zemin and Li Peng after the 1989 Tiananmen Square Massacre.
Nevertheless, the CCP’s supreme leader still summoned some experts to assess the safety of the dam and was told that there was a 50% chance for the dam to withstand the flood. The leader just nodded without showing any concerns, as Miles’ sources told him.
